Victorian mourning has often been seen as a collection of strange, morbid practices. Persistent legends have arisen—and spread on social media—about standing post-mortem photographs, tear bottles, mourning dolls, and unlucky crape. This talk will look at Victorian/Edwardian texts and images in an attempt to sort out fact from fiction in the world of Victorian mourning.
