My friend and I were driving through Southern Illinois, listening to a classic rock station. A 80s style dj comes on, saying they’re taking requests, and accepts a call from a girl who was sobbing. She explained between sobs that she wanted to request a song in memory of her brother who died in a skydiving accident a year earlier. The song? Freebird.

    Dear Caitlin,

Thank you so much for the role you play in the death-aware community. l am the lama, or resident teacher, at a Tibetan Buddhist center in Northern California. We’ve been discussing the possibility of a creating a Buddhist crematorium/ funeral service and i was wondering what you thought the most important first steps might be. Should i be looking at getting some specialized training / schooling, do I need to brush up on local laws, etc? Any advice or helpful tips would be much apprectiated. Also, what is the easiest way to contact you? It wasn’t clear to me after looking at all of your various internet portals. Sincere thanks for your time.
