The Order of The Good Death

Ask a Mortician Ep 3

In which we discuss post mortem tattooing, organ donation, and vultures.

Thanks to Dr. John Troyer for help with our first question.  Visit him a http://deathreferencedesk.org/ which is another great resource for all your burning death questions.  It’s like this website, except WAY more highbrow with no genky youtubes (lookin’ at you Ask a Mortician).

I’ve actually wondered if it’s doable to preserve patches of my skin that have tattoos on them after I die. It seems like tanning the skin would probably degrade the quality of the ink, and I wonder if suspending it in something like formaldehyde would probably degrade the effect, as well.

I, too, LOVE the idea of the Tibetan Sky Burial! I often fantasize about having my corpse laid out on some lovely hillside and letting the nearby animals and bugs feast on me. That’s probably not legal in the US, is it? I suppose the closest I could get would be to donate my body to the Body Farm.
