The Order of The Good Death

Ask a Mortician Ep 1

Oh, the delicious hot mess youtube that is Ask A Mortician.

Influenced by Bill Nye the Science Guy and the teen girls making youtube vlogs, it is the ultimate in my PERSONAL INTERNET BRAND, no?

Thanks to Order member David Forrest for the amazing theme song. Everything else was done by me in a crash course of making internet vids. I tried guys, I surely did try.

    Great concept and really well thought out! Here is my Question;

How many days after death does it take for a corpse to decompose to the point where an open casket funeral is not an option?

  • Derek B.

Awesome video! I’d like to know…

How is embalming fluid actually used, and what is it’s purpose?

I loved your first episode! Please make more, I find this incredible interesting! My question is, does everyone have to be embalmed or can you be buried without it?

  • Brandon Lucius

Do obese people cause problem during cremation?
BTW, My wife and I really enjoyed your video, hope you keep doing them! :)

You said you originally started as a crematory operator. That’s something I’d really like to pursue, but I don’t know where to get started. Any ideas?

Is it true that embalming started during the Civil War as a way to keep Union soldiers “fresh” while they shipped them back home?

Ecstasy of Death #2 says that the train conductors started turning the bodies away so embalming began as a way to keep them “fresh” on their journey home.

Two questions, I’d really like to know: First, and I’m not trying to be funny, is it true that you poop right after you die? Second, I’ve heard men can still get erections after death? Is this true, and if it is what other “lively” things can a corpse do post-mortem?

I enjoyed the video, are you planning on doing more? If so, I have 2 questions:

    1. I’ve read about some of the “weird” stuff that is done to bodies to prepare them for open casket viewings (like sewing lips closed, etc), but I don’t know how much is fact and how much is fiction. Can you tell us a little about the what is generally done?

    2. Although I haven’t put significant thought into it, I’ve always thought that I’d want to be cremated. Can you tell us a little about advantages and disadvantages of cremation versus burial in a casket?

    Thanks for sharing with us!

I hear stories about some funeral homes pulling scams like selling the bones & body parts of a person illegally or REALLY jacking up prices or charging for things that was not needed and/or recived. How can someone know whether the funeral home they’re dealing with is a good one?

  • Wendy920

If you choose to be cremated do they still have to cut you open or do they only do that to find cause of death? I dont want my skull sawed open or my rib cage jacked open.
